JSW Steel records steady production growth in August
JSW Steel recorded a 3% year-on-year increase in consolidated crude steel production in August 2026, with output reaching 24.65 lakh tonnes compared with 23.82 lakh tonnes in the same month last year.
The growth was largely supported by the company’s Indian operations. Domestic crude steel production rose 4% year-on-year to 23.87 lakh tonnes from 22.95 lakh tonnes in August 2025. Capacity utilisation across the company’s Indian operations also improved to 88% during the month, up from 87% in July.
The August performance also marked an improvement over the previous month. Consolidated production increased from 24.02 lakh tonnes in July to 24.65 lakh tonnes in August, indicating a gradual improvement in operational momentum.
Domestic operations remain the key growth driver
India continues to be the stronger contributor to JSW Steel’s production performance. The increase in domestic output comes against the backdrop of firm steel demand, particularly from infrastructure and manufacturing activity.
The company’s Indian capacity utilisation moving higher to 88% is also notable as JSW Steel continues to work on capacity expansion and operational improvements. Its ongoing projects are expected to add further production capability over the longer term.
At the same time, the company’s overseas operations remained under pressure. Production at JSW Steel USA – Ohio stood at 0.78 lakh tonnes in August, down 11% from 0.88 lakh tonnes a year earlier. However, Ohio production increased from 0.63 lakh tonnes in July, showing a sequential recovery despite the year-on-year decline.
Global conditions remain a challenge
The contrasting performance between Indian and US operations highlights the different market conditions facing JSW Steel. While domestic demand has remained relatively resilient, global steel markets continue to face pressure from softer demand and elevated raw material costs.
For JSW Steel, maintaining strong domestic capacity utilisation will remain important as the company advances its expansion plans. The company is also focusing on higher-value steel products and operational efficiency to strengthen its position in the domestic market.
Overall, the August numbers point to steady growth in JSW Steel’s core Indian operations, even as weaker overseas performance remains a factor to watch.
