Jindal Stainless is moving ahead with plans for a major expansion in Maharashtra, but the company is yet to finalise the location for its proposed ₹40,000 crore stainless steel manufacturing facility.

The company is currently identifying a suitable site for the project and expects greater clarity on the location and other aspects of the investment within the next one or two quarters, according to chief executive officer Tarun Khulbe.

“It’s taking a bit of time, but we are progressing in that direction,” Khulbe said while responding to questions on the status of land acquisition for the proposed facility.

The Maharashtra project is part of Jindal Stainless’ broader strategy to expand its manufacturing capacity and position itself for rising demand for stainless steel. However, the company has not yet disclosed the final location, detailed capacity or a specific construction timeline for the proposed facility.

For now, site identification remains the immediate priority. Once the location and other project parameters are finalised, the company is expected to provide greater clarity on the investment plan.

The proposed ₹40,000 crore investment represents a significant expansion commitment for Jindal Stainless and comes at a time when stainless steel demand is receiving support from infrastructure development, manufacturing activity, urbanisation and changing consumption patterns.

Maharashtra offers a large industrial base and access to major domestic markets, making the state an important potential location for large manufacturing investments. The final site selection will therefore be closely watched by the industry, particularly for its implications for logistics, supply chains and future production capacity.

Jindal Stainless has been expanding its manufacturing footprint as it seeks to capture long-term growth in the stainless steel market. The proposed Maharashtra facility is expected to form an important part of that strategy once the location and investment details are finalised.

The company’s next major update is likely to come after the ongoing site-selection process progresses. With clarity expected over the next two quarters, the location decision will be an important milestone for the ₹40,000 crore expansion plan.

For the stainless steel industry, the project could add significant manufacturing capacity in the coming years and strengthen Jindal Stainless’ position in the domestic market.
