Income Tax Department Conducts Major Search at Maruthi Cement Plant in Tiruchi

Income Tax officials initiated an extensive search operation at the Maruthi Cement manufacturing plant in Tiruchi, drawing considerable attention within the regional industrial sector. The investigation began on Wednesday afternoon when a 15-member team from the Income Tax Department entered the factory premises located near Samayapuram. According to sources, the searches were triggered by allegations that the company may have engaged in tax evasion through the use of fake invoices to facilitate cement sales.

Officials examined production units, administrative sections and warehouses, carefully reviewing sales documents, stock registers and financial statements. Key employees were questioned to clarify the procedures followed in the movement of materials and revenue reporting. The objective of the search, sources said, is to identify inconsistencies in billing and to verify whether any undisclosed income was generated through fraudulent practices.

Simultaneously, other teams from the department visited the residence of the plant owner in Maruthi Nagar. Additional locations linked to the management were reportedly covered, indicating the department’s intention to conduct a thorough inspection across all relevant touchpoints. Digital files, invoice logs and communication records are also being reviewed to trace the nature and volume of transactions carried out in recent months.

Although the Income Tax Department has not issued an official statement, preliminary observations suggest that investigators are focusing on complaints that point to potential misuse of billing systems. Insiders familiar with such operations say these kinds of searches often lead to broader scrutiny across connected suppliers, distributors and transport networks, particularly within sectors like cement where inventory and pricing structures are closely monitored.

The ongoing search has created a stir among stakeholders in Tiruchi’s construction material ecosystem. Market watchers note that depending on the outcome, the operation may have short-term implications on local cement distribution and pricing patterns. For now, limited disruptions have been reported inside the plant as officials continue to study records and engage with the company’s administrative team.

The investigation is expected to continue until officials complete their assessment of the financial and operational documents collected from the various sites.
