In a significant boost to Hyderabad’s urban infrastructure, the state government has sanctioned ₹70 billion under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) program to tackle the traffic challenges within the city. With funds earmarked to support 38 major projects aimed at enhancing connectivity within Hyderabad and adjoining municipalities, flyovers, underpasses, and road-over-bridges (ROBs) have been proposed.

These initiatives rely on the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) introduced by the BRS government. Among the SRDP projects proposed, 36 have understandably reached completion. Some significant initiatives include the 4.04km flyover from Kumar Cloth Market to Aramghar, the second-longest flyover in Hyderabad after the 11.6km PVNR Expressway. With works running to more than ₹7.36 billion, this one-of-a-kind six-lane bi-directional flyover will be inaugurated by CM A. Revanth Reddy on Monday, January 6, with remaining works marshaled for completion by March 2025.

This would make the 23rd flyover completed under the SRDP, which has been paralleled by more than 22 similar flyovers, 5 underpasses, 6 ROBs, and 3 other key infrastructure projects. Officials have assured the completed projects such as the Bairamalguda second-level flyover, However, the Abdul Kalam flyover at Owaisi Junction, and the Chandrayangutta flyover have contributed significantly to reducing travel time and fuel consumption for commuters traveling from localities such as Secunderabad, Warangal, Medchal, and Malkajgiri to Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshbad.

Furthermore, additional flyovers, underpasses, and ROBs are reportedly under construction around key areas like Kasu Brahmananda Reddy (KBR) Park. These improvements are expected to streamline transportation for over 1,700 buses dispatched daily from major bus stations, including Imlibun.

It is the vision of the state government that these projects will greatly enhance road infrastructure in town, efficiently meeting the needs of the growing urban population and assuring an overall improvement in movement within the city.
