The much-awaited Hosur airport project will cover 2,000 acres, with two runways to meet the increasing demand for air travel in the region. The second level of site analysis has now been initiated, shortlisting the location to two possibilities.

The first site under consideration is just 1.5 kilometers away from the private airstrip operated by Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Limited (TAAL). The second site, located 15.5 kilometers from Hosur, is near Ulagam, east of the town and north of Shoolagiri.

According to sources, after the State government finalizes the location, it will seek necessary clearances from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and the Ministry of Defence before it goes ahead. This is after the State government announced last June that it would establish the airport in Krishnagiri district, a major industrial hub famous for its automobile and manufacturing industries. The airport will ensure better connectivity for people staying in the southern parts of Bengaluru.

The members of the group, consisting of the Airport Authority of India and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation, have visited five possible sites this month. These included the TAAL site, two near Ulagam, one near Thogarai Agraharam, and another close to Dhasapalli. After a thorough feasibility study, AAI presented a draft report analyzing the pros and cons of each location, which led to the shortlisting of two sites for further investigation.

AAI’s detailed study of these two sites will take approximately two months to complete. Once a site is finalized, the next step will be land acquisition, followed by collaboration with relevant authorities. Additionally, discussions with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) are ongoing, though it remains uncertain whether BIAL will participate due to an existing agreement preventing the construction of international airports within a 150 km radius until 2033.
