Hindalco to Invest Rs 586 Crore in Kuppam Aluminium Plant to Join Apple’s Global Supply Chain

In a significant boost to Andhra Pradesh’s industrial growth, Hindalco Industries, the metals flagship of the Aditya Birla Group, has announced an investment of Rs 586 crore to establish a state-of-the-art aluminium extrusion plant in Kuppam, located in the Chittoor district. The project marks a major milestone in strengthening India’s position in high-value electronics and precision manufacturing, particularly in supplying aluminium components for Apple’s iPhone production.

The announcement was made by Andhra Pradesh’s IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh, who emphasized that this project will be a game-changer for the region’s manufacturing ecosystem. The upcoming facility will produce high-grade aluminium extrusion materials used in iPhone chassis, effectively integrating Andhra Pradesh into Apple’s global supply chain. This development underscores the growing importance of India as a trusted destination for high-precision electronics manufacturing.

The Kuppam unit is expected to create around 613 direct employment opportunities, alongside hundreds of indirect jobs, stimulating local economic growth. Commercial operations are slated to begin by March 2027. According to Lokesh, the project reflects Andhra Pradesh’s policy clarity, efficient execution, and investor-friendly approach, aligning with the State’s Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy 2025–2030 and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

Hindalco Managing Director Satish Pai highlighted Kuppam’s strategic location close to Bengaluru and Chennai along with its skilled workforce and proactive state administration, played a crucial role in the company’s decision to invest. He noted that the plant will be equipped with cutting-edge technology to meet the global standards of precision and sustainability.

The project not only represents a strong step forward for Hindalco but also reinforces Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to become a leading electronics manufacturing hub in India. With Apple’s global suppliers expanding their operations in India, this investment signifies a major leap in local value addition and industrial diversification for the region.
