Google is set to mark a major milestone in India’s digital infrastructure journey with the groundbreaking ceremony of its massive ₹1.38 lakh crore data centre hub in Visakhapatnam on April 28. The project, being developed across multiple sites in Andhra Pradesh, is expected to become one of the largest data centre clusters in Asia and a landmark investment in the country’s fast growing artificial intelligence and cloud ecosystem.

The event is expected to be attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu along with senior leadership from Google, including Google Cloud Chief Executive Officer Thomas Kurian. The ceremony is likely to take place at either the Tarluvada or Rambilli site in the Visakhapatnam region.

Spread across more than 600 acres, the project will come up at Adavivaram, Tarluvada in Visakhapatnam district and Rambilli in Anakapalli district. Together, these three locations will deliver a combined capacity of 1 gigawatt, positioning the facility among the largest hyperscale data centre hubs in the region.

The Andhra Pradesh government has allocated 601.4 acres of land for the project, which is being developed with an estimated investment of $15 billion, equivalent to around ₹1.38 lakh crore. The facility is expected to be completed by July 2028.

The project is being executed by Raiden Infotech India Private Limited, a Google subsidiary, in partnership with AdaniConnex and Airtel. The data centre hub will feature advanced submarine cable connectivity, dedicated landing stations and high capacity metro fibre infrastructure, ensuring low latency and global connectivity.

Industry experts believe the Vizag data centre cluster will significantly strengthen India’s AI infrastructure capabilities and support enterprises, startups and digital platforms with world class cloud and computing services. The development is also expected to boost Andhra Pradesh’s position as a strategic destination for technology investments and large scale digital infrastructure projects.
