The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) of Andhra Pradesh has greenlit development projects in Amaravati totaling ₹11,467 crore, marking a significant step toward reviving the state’s capital region. The approvals came during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, underscoring the government’s commitment to delivering world-class infrastructure.
Among the sanctioned projects, ₹2,498 crore is allocated for constructing 360 km of trunk roads, crucial for enhancing connectivity within the capital region. Additionally, ₹1,585 crore will be invested in building reservoirs and gravity canals across Pala Vagu and Kondaveeti Vagu to ensure water management and flood control.
The CRDA has also approved ₹3,523 crore for developing residential complexes for government officers, including gazetted, non-gazetted, class four, and All India Services (AIS) officers. Further, ₹3,859 crore has been earmarked for providing essential amenities such as underground drainage, streetlights, drinking water, and internal roads in returnable layouts for lands contributed by farmers under the Land Pooling Scheme.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana announced that tenders for the projects would be issued in January 2025, aiming to commence construction without delay. Tenders for the designs of five iconic towers, the new Assembly, and the High Court buildings have already been floated, with tenders for construction expected by the end of December.
Chief Minister Naidu emphasized the importance of adhering to international standards in developing Amaravati, ensuring the region’s infrastructure supports its status as a world-class capital. The Minister criticized the previous government’s policy of splitting the capital into three cities, stating that it led to Amaravati’s stagnation. He reaffirmed the government’s promise to complete Amaravati within three years, aligning with the expectations of the people.
The approved projects are part of a larger strategy to revitalize Amaravati as a hub for governance, commerce, and urban development. With the allocation of funds and clear timelines, the government aims to restore investor confidence and demonstrate its commitment to completing the capital region as envisioned.
The projects, once completed, are expected to boost economic growth, improve the living standards of residents, and position Amaravati as a model capital for other regions.
