Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated highway projects worth Rs 1,141.23 crore in Chengalpet and Tiruvannamalai districts on February 20, 2025. The infrastructure development includes the expansion of the Cheyyur-Panaiyur Link Road and the 109 km-long Cheyyur-Vandavasi-Polur Road, aimed at improving regional connectivity and easing traffic congestion.
The Cheyyur-Panaiyur Link Road, developed under the Chennai-Kanyakumari Industrial Corridor scheme with Asian Development Bank support, features extensive road widening, pipeline realignment, and enhanced safety measures such as streetlights and surveillance cameras. These improvements are expected to facilitate smoother transportation along the coastal region, benefiting industries and local commuters alike.
The Cheyyur-Vandavasi-Polur Road project introduces three bypass roads at Maruthadu, Vandavasi, and Sethupattu, designed to decongest town centers and improve travel efficiency. This major upgrade also includes the construction of five high-level bridges, 14 minor bridges, and 225 culverts, ensuring seamless connectivity between key highways, including the East Coast Road, Chennai-Trichy National Highway, and Villupuram-Mangaluru National Highway.
Officials highlighted that the enhanced infrastructure will significantly reduce travel time, boost trade activities, and provide better access to urban healthcare and educational institutions. The project is set to benefit 67 villages, supporting economic growth and mobility in the region.
The Tamil Nadu government continues to prioritize infrastructure expansion, focusing on modernizing road networks to enhance regional trade and economic development.
