Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for a series of projects in the higher education, housing, and urban development departments worth a combined value of over ₹1,320 crore as part of a massive infrastructure push.

The cherry on the cake was the launch of a ₹42 crore modern hostel for 455 girls from Queen Mary’s College, Chennai. With CCTV cameras, lifts, medical facilities, and water coolers installed on all floors, the hostel seeks to offer comfortable and secure accommodation. Stalin personally visited the building and declared that he would sanction the same ₹28 crore hostel for Madras University’s research scholars, a vow he made during the 2022 convocation of the university. Stalin laid the foundation stone for a ₹5 crore auditorium in the same college, at the cost of MP P. Wilson’s MPLADS.

Stalin also inaugurated ₹120 crore higher education schemes and laid the foundation stones for new infrastructure costing ₹207.82 crore in 15 districts. The projects are for new hostels, laboratories, academic buildings, and classrooms in government universities and colleges. In Taramani, Chennai, he laid the foundation for new hostel buildings worth ₹25 crore of Central Polytechnic College whose existing buildings are in a state of ruin.

In the real estate sector, Stalin opened 4,978 new tenements in 14 zones that were built at a cost of ₹527.84 crore as part of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board’s ‘Housing for All’ scheme. Sammanthapuram in Virudhunagar has the largest cluster of 864 units built at a cost of ₹80.74 crore.”

Urbanization was also induced. The CM inaugurated four open-air fitness parks at Minjur, Vellanur, Varadharajapuram, and Thirunageswaram. In Chennai, renovated bus stands in Thiruvanmiyur, Avadi, and Ayyappanthangal were inaugurated. Projects such as a green park, a water-absorption park, pond rejuvenation projects, and a cold storage unit at Koyambedu were also launched.

The project is a mirror of the government’s continued emphasis on inclusive growth, youth empowerment, and urban sustainable development.
