The Telangana government has taken a major step toward shaping its next-generation urban vision by appointing Singapore-based urban consultancy Surbana Jurong to prepare the detailed project report for the ambitious Bharat Future City project on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The move signals the state’s intent to adopt global planning standards while building a future-ready city anchored in sustainability, innovation, and long-term economic growth.
Planned over a vast 30,000-acre expanse, Bharat Future City is envisioned as a carbon-neutral urban centre that integrates economic development with environmental responsibility. Of the total area, around 15,000 acres will be allocated for clearly defined functional zones, including education, healthcare, information technology, artificial intelligence, sports infrastructure, and a dedicated film city. The DPR prepared by Surbana Jurong will detail zoning regulations, infrastructure frameworks, and land-use strategies, laying the foundation for systematic and transparent land allocation.
Interest from major domestic and global players has already begun to gather momentum. Reliance Group’s Vantara initiative has proposed setting up a world-class zoo and eco-tourism zone within the project area, aligning with the city’s sustainability goals. Salman Khan Ventures has also announced plans for an integrated township and film studio development, with a proposed investment of around Rs 10,000 crore, underscoring the project’s potential to attract large-scale private capital.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has emphasised that the government will follow a transparent process, with global tenders and clearly defined standards guiding project execution. According to the state leadership, Bharat Future City will prioritise clean energy adoption, electric mobility, water conservation, and eco-friendly construction practices, positioning it as a model for sustainable urbanisation in India.
The proposed development also encompasses a 56-village footprint, requiring careful integration of existing settlements into the broader master plan. The comprehensive master plan is expected to be placed by January 2026, after which phased development is likely to begin.
With global expertise guiding its planning and strong investor interest already visible, Bharat Future City is shaping up as one of Telangana’s most significant urban initiatives, aimed at strengthening Hyderabad’s position as a future-focused economic and innovation hub.
