Bengaluru East City Corporation has presented its maiden budget for 2026–27 with a total outlay of ₹3,889.98 crore, marking a significant step in shaping urban development priorities for one of the city’s fastest-growing regions. The budget places strong emphasis on infrastructure upgrades, solid waste management and welfare-driven initiatives.

Commissioner D S Ramesh, while presenting the budget, highlighted that ₹300 crore has been allocated for strengthening solid waste management systems. This includes improving collection efficiency, processing capacity and overall cleanliness standards. Infrastructure development remains another key focus, with ₹298.10 crore earmarked for arterial and sub-arterial road works to ease congestion and enhance connectivity.

In a decentralised approach, each ward will receive ₹2.25 crore for local development works, taking the total ward-level allocation to ₹112.50 crore. This move is expected to empower local governance and address micro-level infrastructure needs effectively.

On the revenue front, the corporation has projected ₹1,500 crore from property tax collections, supported by the digitisation of 4.5 lakh property records. Additional revenue of ₹982 crore is expected through building plan approvals and premium floor area ratio fees, indicating a strong push towards financial sustainability.

Among the major infrastructure initiatives, ₹50 crore has been allocated for the Alpine Eco Road project along the Outer Ring Road, to be funded through municipal bonds. The budget also sets aside ₹25 crore each for railway overbridges and a new corporation headquarters, while ₹20 crore will be used for enhancing public spaces.

Road widening projects across key areas such as Channasandra, Kothnur Main Road and Kadugodi have been allocated ₹40 crore. The corporation has also earmarked ₹45 crore for parks and horticulture development, along with ₹58 crore for lake rejuvenation efforts.

In the social infrastructure segment, ₹50.86 crore has been allocated for healthcare initiatives, including new primary health centres, Namma Clinics and vaccination programmes. Additionally, ₹227 crore will be invested in development works benefiting SC, ST and minority communities.

Looking ahead, the corporation aims to develop 100 km of footpaths, improve waste management systems and enhance urban green spaces. The budget reflects a balanced approach, combining infrastructure growth with inclusive urban development.
