ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel is leading a much-awaited investment, chief minister of Andhra Pradesh announced in a hallmark statement made to the public, and World Economic Forum (WEF) that the same group was announcing ₹1.4 lakh crore in anintegrated steel project located at Anakapalli which also holds the world’s biggest project in 17.8 million tonnes. That is one of the largest greenfield investments in the world.

Chief Minister Naidu shared the news on X, stating, “Met with Executive Chairman @AMNSIndia Lakshmi N. Mittal and CEO Aditya Mittal in Davos today. Their commitment to Andhra Pradesh’s 17.8-million-ton steel plant marks a transformative milestone for our state.”

Accompanied by state ministers Nara Lokesh and T.G. Bharat, Naidu engaged with Lakshmi Mittal and Aditya Mittal to discuss the steel plant’s progress and explore additional collaborations. Pointing out the state’s pro-business environment, Lokesh suggested converting Bhavanapadu into a world-class petrochemical hub, citing planned 83.3 MTPA port capacity, advanced infrastructure, and strategic R&D resources like the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy in Visakhapatnam.

Another offer made by Lokesh was of a ₹3,500 crore solar cell manufacturing plant under HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL), looking to create 2,000 jobs. It also garnered some encouraging words from Lakshmi Mittal on developing further the industrial interests of Andhra Pradesh.

The investment’s renewable energy component was another highlight. Mittal announced a collaboration with Greenko to develop 975 MW of solar and wind capacity, ensuring clean energy for the Anakapalli steel plant. This will bring down carbon emissions by 1.5 million tonnes every year. A 1 MT green ammonia project in Kakinada also strengthens the state’s sustainability pursuits.

With these investments, Andhra Pradesh is poised to strengthen its position as a premier destination for green and industrial innovation, setting a benchmark for other states to follow.
