The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has approved a wide-ranging set of infrastructure and development initiatives, marking a renewed push to accelerate economic growth and urban transformation across the state. At the centre of the decisions is a ₹7,387.70 crore loan from NABARD for the development of capital city Amaravati, underscoring the government’s commitment to completing long-pending capital region works.
The Cabinet cleared multiple high-value projects aimed at strengthening core urban infrastructure. These include the awarding of contracts for a flood pumping station and the Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre, positioning the capital as a future-ready knowledge and technology hub. Several development works in Zone-8 of the Amaravati region were also approved to support planned urban expansion.
A major highlight of the decisions was the sanctioning of a ₹1,673 crore underground drainage and sewage treatment project for the Mangalagiri–Tadepalli municipal area. The project is expected to significantly improve sanitation standards, environmental outcomes and overall quality of life in one of the fastest-growing urban clusters near the capital region.
In a move focused on public safety, the Cabinet approved the introduction of a 10 percent road safety cess on motor vehicle life tax. The additional revenue is intended to fund road safety infrastructure and accident-prevention measures across the state. At the same time, exemptions were cleared for land pooling beneficiaries in Tirupati, providing relief to landowners who contributed land for development projects.
The Cabinet also took key decisions to support education, industry and sports infrastructure. Leases were approved for the Indian Institute of Plantation Management and for Vedanta’s drilling activities, reflecting continued efforts to attract institutional and industrial investment. Tirupati received further impetus with land being allocated for a sports city, aimed at promoting sports development and related economic activity.
Looking beyond urban centres, the government cleared proposals for a greenfield port, a shipbuilding cluster and a new airport at Duggarajupatnam. These projects are expected to enhance Andhra Pradesh’s logistics, maritime and aviation capabilities, strengthening its position as a key industrial and trade destination on the east coast.
Addressing the Cabinet’s decisions, the Chief Minister said the approved projects are focused on improving urban infrastructure, creating employment and driving long-term economic growth. Together, the measures signal a coordinated push to revive capital development, expand infrastructure capacity and support Andhra Pradesh’s broader growth ambitions.
