Amaravati to be Developed as Andhra Pradesh’s Central Rail and Logistics Hub: CM Chandrababu Naidu

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform Amaravati into the state’s central hub for rail and logistics development. The initiative aims to integrate Amaravati into a high-speed, multimodal transport network connecting Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Tirupati — positioning the capital region as a crucial node for both passenger and freight movement across South India.

During a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized that Amaravati’s strategic location makes it ideal for a comprehensive transport ecosystem. The proposed network includes a bullet train link connecting the upcoming international airport at Amaravati, along with new railway terminals at Amaravati and Gannavaram to handle growing passenger and cargo traffic. Naidu also directed officials to fast-track proposals for Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC) and new railway routes aimed at strengthening intra-state and inter-state connectivity.

The Chief Minister further highlighted the importance of enhancing connectivity to key ports such as Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, and Krishnapatnam, which will play a vital role in boosting industrial and export-led growth. The move aligns with the government’s broader vision to make Andhra Pradesh a logistics powerhouse and improve ease of doing business across sectors.

Naidu also announced plans to develop world-class railway stations in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Amaravati, designed to reflect the cultural identity and modern aspirations of the state. Renovation works at other major stations, including Rajamahendravaram, are expected to be completed before the upcoming festive season.

Officials have been instructed to coordinate with the Ministry of Railways to expedite project approvals and ensure timely execution. The state government is also exploring public-private partnerships (PPP) to attract investments and ensure sustainable development of logistics infrastructure.

By integrating advanced rail infrastructure, high-speed corridors, and port connectivity, Andhra Pradesh aims to position Amaravati as a next-generation logistics and transportation hub, driving economic growth and employment opportunities across the region.
