Andhra Pradesh Fast-Tracks 190-km Amaravati Outer Ring Road Project to Boost Regional Growth

The Andhra Pradesh government has accelerated plans to develop a 190-kilometre-long Outer Ring Road (ORR) around Amaravati, aimed at improving road connectivity and stimulating economic growth in and around the state capital region. The mega project, estimated to cost approximately ₹24,791 crore, is expected to transform Amaravati into a key infrastructure hub in South India.

The proposed Outer Ring Road will feature a six-lane main carriageway with two service roads on either side, ensuring smooth traffic flow and better accessibility between major towns, industrial zones, and upcoming residential areas. A detailed project report (DPR) prepared by the State Highways Authority has already been submitted to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for review and approval.

Once cleared, the project will be implemented in 12 carefully planned phases to ensure timely completion and minimal disruption. The Andhra Pradesh government will contribute around ₹3,117 crore primarily for land acquisition, resettlement, and other support infrastructure. The remaining investment will be mobilised through central funding and other financing models under NHAI’s supervision.

Officials have highlighted that the Amaravati ORR will surpass Hyderabad’s 158-km Outer Ring Road in length, positioning it as one of India’s most significant urban mobility corridors. Beyond easing traffic congestion, the corridor is expected to attract large-scale investments in logistics, warehousing, manufacturing, and real estate sectors, creating employment opportunities and accelerating urban development in the Amaravati capital zone.

Experts believe the project will redefine connectivity across the Guntur, Vijayawada, and Tenali regions, supporting industrial expansion and facilitating faster goods movement across South India. With the inclusion of green corridors, smart traffic systems, and integrated townships along the route, the Amaravati ORR aligns with the state’s long-term vision for sustainable infrastructure development.

Once operational, the 190-km Outer Ring Road will not only enhance mobility but also unlock vast economic potential, positioning Amaravati as a model capital for planned urban growth and connectivity excellence.
