BEML Unveils India’s First Indigenous 60-Ton Electric Dump Truck BH60-EV

BEML has introduced the BH60-EV, India’s first indigenously designed and developed 60-ton electric dump truck, marking a significant step towards the electrification of heavy equipment used in mining and infrastructure projects.

The electric dump truck was unveiled at BEML’s Mysuru Complex. The company has developed the vehicle to handle high-capacity operations where heavy-duty dump trucks are traditionally powered by diesel engines.

According to details shared by BEML, the BH60-EV is designed to operate with zero tailpipe emissions. The company estimates that the electric vehicle could reduce operating costs by around 40% to 60% compared with conventional diesel-powered equipment. The potential reduction in operating expenses could be particularly relevant for mining and infrastructure operators, where fuel and equipment-related costs form a significant part of project operations.

The launch also expands BEML’s heavy equipment portfolio beyond conventional diesel-powered machinery. Alongside the electric truck, the company is offering compatible charging infrastructure designed to support deployment at operating sites. This includes scalable charging solutions that can be integrated with the electrical systems available at mining and infrastructure locations.

The BH60-EV has been developed at BEML’s Mysuru facility, highlighting the company’s focus on indigenous engineering and electric heavy machinery. The vehicle is intended for demanding applications where high payload capacity and continuous equipment utilisation are required.

The move comes as mining and infrastructure companies increasingly explore ways to reduce dependence on diesel equipment and lower emissions from their operations. Electrification of heavy machinery, however, also requires suitable charging infrastructure and reliable power availability, particularly at remote mining locations.

BEML’s consolidated order book stood at ₹16,284 crore as of June 30, 2026, according to the information cited in the company’s latest market update. The company has also secured major orders across its railway, aerospace and defence-related businesses in recent months.

The commercial adoption of the BH60-EV will depend on factors including charging infrastructure, battery supply, operating conditions and fleet economics. Its introduction nevertheless adds an indigenous electric option to India’s heavy-duty mining and infrastructure equipment market.
