VRL Logistics has reported a strong financial performance for the first quarter of the 2026–27 financial year, with standalone net profit rising 61% year-on-year to ₹80.5 crore. The logistics company also approved a share buyback programme worth up to ₹280 crore, giving investors another key development to track.
The company’s operating revenue increased 18.1% year-on-year to ₹878.8 crore in Q1 FY27, compared with ₹744.3 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The growth reflects continued momentum in its core logistics operations and higher freight realisations.
VRL Logistics also recorded an improvement in profitability at the operating level. EBITDA margin expanded to 21.2% during the quarter from 20.4% a year earlier, representing an 80-basis-point improvement.
A key driver was the increase in freight realisation. Realisation per tonne rose 9% year-on-year to ₹8,546, while overall freight volumes grew 9% to 1.019 million metric tonnes during the quarter.
The company’s network also continued to expand. Its total branch network increased to 1,302 operational units, compared with 1,241 branches in the June quarter of the previous year. VRL Logistics also operates a proprietary fleet of more than 6,100 commercial vehicles, supporting its asset-heavy operating model.
₹280-Crore Share Buyback
Alongside the quarterly performance, the board approved a share buyback of up to ₹280 crore at ₹320 per share. The proposed buyback price represents a premium to the market price at the time of approval and forms a significant part of the company’s capital allocation strategy.
The buyback represents 24.51% of the aggregate fully paid-up equity share capital and free reserves. The programme will be subject to the applicable shareholder and regulatory processes before completion.
The company’s strong cash generation provides room for shareholder returns while continuing to invest in its logistics network and fleet.
## Outlook for Logistics Growth
VRL Logistics operates in a road transportation market that is undergoing increasing formalisation. Organised logistics companies are benefiting from expanding supply chains, infrastructure development and the growing preference among businesses for reliable nationwide transportation networks.
For VRL Logistics, maintaining volume growth while managing fuel and operating costs will remain important in the coming quarters. Changes in diesel prices, freight rates and industrial activity could influence margins and cargo volumes.
With higher profitability, expanding volumes and a sizeable buyback programme, VRL Logistics enters the next phase of FY27 with a stronger financial profile. The performance also highlights the continuing importance of organised road logistics as India’s freight transportation ecosystem expands.
