Tamil Nadu is stepping up its industrial infrastructure push with a series of projects aimed at attracting fresh investments, expanding manufacturing capacity and creating employment opportunities across the state.
Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Minister S. Keerthana announced the initiatives in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly as part of the Industries Department’s demand for grants.
One of the major announcements is a new SIPCOT industrial park at Mudaivaithanendal in Thoothukudi district. The park will be developed across approximately 2,570 acres at an estimated cost of ₹1,390 crore. It is expected to attract around ₹5,000 crore in investments and generate nearly 20,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
The proposed industrial park will focus on clean and renewable energy-based industries, supporting the state’s efforts to promote sustainable industrial growth in the southern districts. Testing, training and other common infrastructure facilities will also be provided.
Tamil Nadu is also planning a dedicated electric vehicle manufacturing industrial park at Sillanatham in Thoothukudi district. Spread across about 1,294 acres, the project is estimated to cost ₹774 crore and could attract around ₹7,000 crore in investments. It is expected to create approximately 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Other industrial parks are proposed at Omandur in Villupuram and Lathuvadi in Namakkal. Each project is expected to attract about ₹1,000 crore in investment, with the two parks together creating thousands of employment opportunities.
At the Gangaikondan SIPCOT Industrial Park, accommodation for more than 2,500 workers will be developed as part of Phase II, with an estimated investment of ₹130 crore through a public-private participation model. The state also plans to invest around ₹224 crore in plug-and-play industrial facilities at Gangaikondan and Thoothukudi.
The government is additionally looking to modernise the way industrial land is allocated through a comprehensive digital platform. Investors will be able to access information on available industrial plots and park layouts online, including through 3D visualisation.
A digital monitoring system, supported by a mobile application and integrated web platform, will also strengthen safety monitoring across SIPCOT industrial parks. The system is expected to progressively incorporate artificial intelligence capabilities.
The announcements also include a new semiconductor incentive framework, a women entrepreneurs development scheme and financing support for MSMEs. Together, the measures are intended to make Tamil Nadu more investment-friendly while widening the benefits of industrial growth across the state.
