Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram has begun commercial flight operations, marking a significant development for air connectivity in North Andhra.

The airport commenced its first commercial services recently, with IndiGo operating the inaugural flight from Hyderabad. The launch brings a new aviation gateway to the region and is expected to improve connectivity for passengers travelling to and from northern parts of Andhra Pradesh.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu flagged off the airport’s first commercial flight services and handed over boarding passes to passengers at the launch event.

The minister described the start of commercial operations as an important milestone for North Andhra, highlighting the potential for the airport to open up new opportunities for travel, trade and regional development.

The Bhogapuram airport is expected to play an important role in strengthening air connectivity across the region. With commercial flights now operating, passengers in North Andhra will have improved access to major cities and connecting destinations through the airport.

The airport’s location is also expected to support the broader economic development of the region. Better air connectivity can improve access for business travellers, investors and tourists while supporting movement related to trade and other economic activities.

The launch comes at a time when connectivity is increasingly becoming an important factor in regional development. For North Andhra, the new airport provides an additional aviation infrastructure asset that could support the growth of tourism, commerce and other sectors.

The commencement of commercial services also marks the transition of the airport from a major infrastructure project to an operational aviation facility serving passengers.

With IndiGo operating the first commercial flight from Hyderabad, the initial service establishes a direct air link between Bhogapuram and one of the country’s major aviation hubs. Further development of flight connectivity could strengthen the airport’s role as a regional gateway.

The start of operations is therefore being viewed as more than the opening of a new airport. It represents a potential shift in how North Andhra connects with other parts of India and could create new opportunities for the region as flight services expand.
