Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the Bhogapuram International Airport in Andhra Pradesh during the third week of July, according to officials familiar with the preparations. The airport, developed by GMR near Visakhapatnam, is set to become the state’s first greenfield international airport and a major infrastructure asset for northern Andhra Pradesh.

Sources said a few tentative dates have already been shared with the Prime Minister’s Office, and the final inauguration schedule is expected to be confirmed shortly. Government agencies and airport authorities are simultaneously completing operational and regulatory formalities ahead of the commercial launch.

The Bhogapuram International Airport has been designed to strengthen air connectivity across the region while supporting tourism, trade, logistics, and industrial growth. Its strategic location near Visakhapatnam is expected to improve access for businesses and passengers travelling to and from northern coastal Andhra Pradesh.

As part of the final preparations, the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India has approved the User Development Fee structure for the airport. Domestic passengers departing from the airport will pay a User Development Fee of ₹835, while arriving domestic passengers will be charged ₹355. For international travellers, the fee has been fixed at ₹1,255 for departures and ₹545 for arrivals.

The airport is expected to play a significant role in supporting the state’s long-term infrastructure and economic development plans. Improved connectivity is likely to attract investments across sectors, including manufacturing, tourism, logistics, information technology, and aviation-related services.

Developed by GMR, the project represents one of Andhra Pradesh’s most important aviation infrastructure investments in recent years. Once operational, the airport is expected to reduce pressure on existing aviation facilities while creating new opportunities for businesses and passengers across the region.

With the inauguration likely to take place in July, Bhogapuram International Airport is set to become a landmark project that strengthens Andhra Pradesh’s position as an emerging investment and connectivity hub in South India.
