Bhogapuram International Airport Set for July Launch as Andhra Pradesh Accelerates Connectivity Works

The much-awaited Bhogapuram International Airport in Andhra Pradesh is expected to become operational in the first week of July, marking a significant milestone for the state’s aviation and infrastructure sector. Officially named the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport, the project is expected to transform air connectivity across North Andhra Pradesh and support long-term economic growth in the region.

With the launch date approaching, the Andhra Pradesh government has intensified efforts to complete critical connectivity and infrastructure projects linked to the airport. District authorities are closely monitoring progress on multiple road development works designed to ensure seamless access between Visakhapatnam and the upcoming airport.

District Collector M Abhishikth Kishore recently reviewed the status of airport-related infrastructure projects and directed officials to complete all major road connectivity works by June 30. The review covered seven key airport access roads as well as land pooling and layout development activities being undertaken by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA).

Authorities have also been instructed to speed up the installation of road signage, street lighting systems, and supporting urban infrastructure. Plans are underway to establish a dedicated bus terminal and electric vehicle charging facilities to improve passenger convenience and encourage sustainable transportation options. Discussions with ride-hailing service providers are also being explored to strengthen last-mile connectivity.

The Bhogapuram International Airport project is expected to significantly improve regional connectivity by providing enhanced domestic and international flight options for travellers from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and surrounding districts. Industry experts believe the airport will act as a catalyst for tourism, logistics, trade, real estate and industrial development across North Andhra Pradesh.

The project is also expected to attract fresh investments into the region by improving accessibility for businesses and investors. Improved air connectivity often plays a crucial role in supporting economic activity, job creation and urban development.

As the inauguration draws closer, weekly review meetings are being conducted to monitor progress and resolve pending issues. The state government remains focused on ensuring that all supporting infrastructure is ready before the airport begins operations.
