The Andhra Pradesh government has given a major push to the Ramayapatnam Greenfield Port project, signalling renewed momentum for one of the state’s key maritime infrastructure initiatives. During a high-level review meeting held at the Secretariat, a Cabinet sub-committee cleared a series of steps aimed at accelerating construction activity and improving multimodal connectivity to the port.

The meeting, attended by Ministers Pyyavula Keshav, BC Janardhan Reddy and Kandula Durgesh, focused on the progress of the first phase of the project and the roadmap for the upcoming stages. One of the key decisions taken was the extension of time for the completion of Phase I, a move expected to ensure smoother execution of the ongoing civil and infrastructure works.

Officials stressed that robust connectivity will be crucial for the long-term success of the port. As part of this strategy, the government has directed departments to prepare detailed proposals for road and rail infrastructure upgrades, including a northern access road corridor and a parallel double railway line. These measures are aimed at enhancing cargo movement efficiency and ensuring seamless connectivity between the port and inland industrial corridors.

The Ramayapatnam port is being positioned as a strategic gateway for maritime trade, industrial expansion and logistics growth along the Andhra coast. Senior officials from the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board and executing agency Navayuga Engineering Company also participated in the review discussions.

Industry experts believe the project could play a transformative role in boosting coastal shipping, reducing logistics costs and attracting new industrial investments in sectors such as manufacturing, bulk cargo handling and export-oriented businesses.

With the state government now moving aggressively on connectivity and execution, the Ramayapatnam Greenfield Port is expected to emerge as a major logistics and trade hub in the coming years, strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s position in India’s maritime infrastructure landscape.
