ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has invited Expressions of Interest from qualified and experienced suppliers to establish a dedicated steel fabrication unit close to its proposed Integrated Steel Plant at Rajayyapeta in Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh. The initiative forms a crucial part of the company’s plan to build one of the country’s largest and most advanced steel manufacturing facilities.
According to the company, the proposed fabrication unit will support the construction of the integrated steel plant and is expected to be developed within a timeline of up to four years. Suppliers interested in participating in the project have been asked to submit detailed company profiles that outline their current business operations, annual turnover, existing manufacturing capacity and the monthly fabrication volumes they would be able to commit through the new unit.
The Rajayyapeta steel plant is planned as a state of the art facility with an initial production capacity of 8.20 million tonnes per annum. The project will include port integrated infrastructure to enable efficient logistics and raw material handling. For the construction of the mega plant, AM/NS India estimates that nearly one million tonnes of fabricated steel structures will be required.
The company had earlier submitted a proposal to the Government of Andhra Pradesh to establish a larger integrated steel plant with a capacity of 17.80 million tonnes per annum in two phases. The proposal received approval from the state government in November 2024. Following the approval, the Andhra Pradesh government allocated around 2,200 acres of land for the project.
Once operational, the facility is expected to manufacture a range of finished steel products including hot rolled coils, cold rolled coils, galvanised auto grade coils and hot rolled coils produced through a thin slab caster route. These products are widely used in infrastructure, construction, automotive and manufacturing sectors.
In parallel, the company is also working on strengthening raw material logistics. The 244 kilometre long iron ore slurry pipeline originating from NMDC’s Bailadila mines in Chhattisgarh is being diverted near Peddapeta village to connect with the upcoming steel plant. A cadastral survey is currently underway to secure right of way for the remaining 54 kilometre stretch leading to the project site.
The proposed integrated steel plant is expected to significantly boost industrial activity in the region while generating employment and strengthening India’s steel manufacturing capacity.
