KNR Constructions has secured a major infrastructure contract worth Rs 2,163 crore for the development of a four lane elevated corridor along Chennai’s East Coast Road. The project will connect Thiruvanmiyur and Uthandi, two critical stretches that witness heavy daily traffic due to residential growth, commercial activity and tourism movement.

The company has received a Letter of Acceptance for the project, which will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode. This model ensures a balanced risk sharing mechanism between the government and the private developer, offering financial stability and predictable cash flows over the concession period. However, the signing of the concession agreement remains subject to the outcome of a pending matter before the Madras High Court.

The East Coast Road is one of Chennai’s most prominent corridors, linking the city with key suburban and coastal destinations. Over the years, rapid urban expansion along the IT corridor and increasing vehicle density have intensified congestion, particularly during peak hours and weekends. The proposed elevated structure is expected to significantly ease traffic flow, reduce travel time and enhance commuter safety.

Industry observers note that the award reinforces KNR Constructions’ strong presence in the road infrastructure segment. The project also reflects the continued push towards urban mobility upgrades in Chennai, where large scale transport initiatives are being prioritised to support economic activity and real estate development.

Once completed, the elevated corridor is likely to improve connectivity to emerging residential hubs and commercial clusters along the ECR belt. The project is expected to generate employment during the construction phase and contribute to long term infrastructure strengthening in Tamil Nadu’s capital city.
