Andhra Pradesh to Lay Foundation Stone for AMNS Steel Plant After February 15

The Andhra Pradesh government is set to move ahead with one of its most ambitious industrial projects, with the foundation stone for the ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel plant in Anakapalli district likely to be laid after February 15. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced the timeline following discussions with ArcelorMittal Executive Chairman Lakshmi Mittal on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The steel plant, to be developed by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India, will see an initial investment of around Rs 60,000 crore in its first phase. Once operational, the project is expected to significantly strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s industrial base and position the state as a key hub for steel manufacturing on the east coast.

According to the Chief Minister, the state government has instructed officials to complete all pending approvals, including land allotment and statutory clearances, before the foundation stone is laid. The emphasis, he said, is on ensuring that there are no procedural delays once the project formally takes off.

Naidu also underlined the importance of timely execution and early commencement of production. Large industrial projects, he noted, play a crucial role in job creation, infrastructure development and long-term economic growth. The Anakapalli steel plant is expected to generate substantial direct and indirect employment while supporting ancillary industries across the region.

As part of the follow-up action, Ministers Nara Lokesh and TG Bharath have been tasked with coordinating with the Union government to secure the necessary central approvals for the project. This includes environmental and industrial permissions required for large-scale steel manufacturing facilities.

The proposed plant will add to India’s expanding steel capacity at a time when domestic demand is being driven by infrastructure spending, housing and manufacturing growth. For Andhra Pradesh, the project aligns closely with the state’s broader vision to attract large investments and accelerate industrialisation.

With preparatory work now in its final stages, the upcoming foundation stone ceremony is being seen as a key milestone, signalling renewed momentum in Andhra Pradesh’s industrial development agenda.
