Centre Sanctions Rs 94.08 Crore for Safety and Infrastructure Works on NH-275

The Central government has sanctioned Rs 94.08 crore for critical safety and infrastructure improvement works on National Highway 275, covering the busy Bantwal to Bengaluru stretch in Karnataka. The funding is aimed at strengthening vulnerable sections of the highway, improving commuter safety, and ensuring uninterrupted connectivity during the monsoon season.

The announcement was made by Mysuru Member of Parliament Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, who highlighted that the sanctioned amount will be utilised primarily along the Sampaje to Kushalnagar section. This stretch, located between the 78 kilometre and 125 kilometre markers, is known for frequent landslides and traffic disruptions during heavy rainfall, posing serious risks to motorists and transport operators.

As part of the project, around 1,650 metres of reinforced cement concrete retaining walls will be constructed to stabilise hill slopes and prevent soil erosion. In addition, 110 metres of pressure relief walls will be built to manage water flow and reduce pressure on embankments during intense rainfall. These structural interventions are expected to significantly lower the risk of landslides and road damage.

The project also includes widening of nearly 1,690 metres of roadway across 17 identified locations to improve traffic flow and visibility. Several existing culverts will be rebuilt to enhance drainage efficiency, while modern crash barriers and updated traffic signboards will be installed to improve overall road safety for both passenger and commercial vehicles.

The entire work will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction model, ensuring accountability and timely delivery. Construction activities are expected to be completed within 18 months, followed by a 10 year maintenance period to ensure long term durability and performance of the upgraded infrastructure.

Once completed, the NH 275 safety project is expected to play a crucial role in improving connectivity between Bengaluru and Karnataka’s coastal regions. It will support smoother movement of goods, safer travel for commuters, and uninterrupted access even during adverse weather conditions, strengthening regional economic activity and tourism growth.
