After nearly two decades of uncertainty and repeated delays, Bengaluru’s long-awaited Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project is finally taking shape — this time with a new identity and renewed purpose. The 74-kilometre stretch has been officially rebranded as the Bengaluru Business Corridor (BBC), reflecting the city’s growing ambition to become a world-class business and mobility hub.

According to officials, the project’s updated blueprint features a modern eight-lane expressway with dedicated infrastructure for future urban mobility. A 5-metre-wide space has been reserved in the middle of the corridor to accommodate a future Metro line, ensuring seamless multimodal connectivity across Bengaluru’s expanding suburban areas.

BBC Chairman L.K. Atheeq explained that the road will have a total width of 65 metres, offering well-structured movement for different types of commuters. Of this, 41 metres will be occupied by the eight-lane expressway and the Metro reservation area. On either side of the main carriageway, there will be 9-metre-wide service roads, each featuring two lanes and a separate cycling track. To promote walkability and enhance urban design, the project also includes 3-metre-wide pedestrian pavements.

The Bengaluru Business Corridor is being designed not just as a road project, but as a comprehensive urban development initiative that aims to ease traffic congestion, encourage business investments, and improve the overall quality of life in and around the city. It will connect several key industrial and residential zones, offering smoother logistics and faster access between northern and southern parts of Bengaluru.

Once completed, the BBC is expected to serve as a critical infrastructure backbone for the region, linking major economic clusters, IT parks, and emerging growth corridors. The project also aligns with Karnataka’s vision to modernize its transport infrastructure and attract global investors to the city.

With sustainable design elements and provisions for future transit systems, the Bengaluru Business Corridor could redefine the city’s growth trajectory — setting a new benchmark for urban mobility and infrastructure planning in India.
