The Tamil Nadu State Highways Authority has announced an ambitious plan to enhance commuter convenience and road safety by establishing roadside facility centres across seven key districts. The initiative targets Ariyalur, Kovilpatti, Tiruppur, Palani, Tiruvallur, Tirupattur, and Kanchipuram, reflecting the state’s commitment to improving travel infrastructure on its busy state highways.

These modern facilities are designed to cater to the diverse needs of travelers. They will include clean and well-maintained toilets, safe drinking water points, ample parking spaces, and EV charging stations to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles. In addition, restaurants and food courts will offer a range of local and hygienic dining options, making long journeys more comfortable and enjoyable.

According to officials, the project emphasizes both safety and convenience. Well-lit areas, surveillance systems, and strategically planned layouts will ensure travelers feel secure, even during late-night journeys. The inclusion of EV charging stations aligns with Tamil Nadu’s vision to promote sustainable mobility and reduce carbon emissions.

The selection of these seven districts considers high-traffic corridors and strategic routes connecting urban and rural hubs. Ariyalur and Kanchipuram, with their industrial and cultural significance, are expected to benefit from smoother transit and better traveler services. Similarly, Tiruppur, a major textile hub, and Palani, a popular pilgrimage destination, will see improved facilities for both local commuters and tourists.

The State Highways Authority aims to complete this project in phases, ensuring minimum disruption to daily traffic. Once operational, these centres are expected to boost tourism, facilitate efficient transport of goods, and provide a safer, more pleasant travel experience for commuters across the state.

With this initiative, Tamil Nadu sets an example for other states in creating commuter-friendly infrastructure that balances modern convenience, safety, and sustainability. Travelers can look forward to a new era of comfort and efficiency on state highways.
