The new bridge projects in Chennai are expected to reduce traffic congestion. The new projects are meant to improve connectivity across key roads, and Greater Chennai Corporation is taking up these initiatives to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the city.

Most significant works involve the building of three steel bridges connecting ECR to Old Mahabalipuram Road, crossing the Buckingham Canal. Much-needed alternative routes would reduce pressure on the already narrow bridges existing today and allow commuters greater access.
The new three bridges would be strategically situated along the points where the routes of ECR and OMR meet.

1.Venkatesapuram – Elango Nagar: It will join Venkatesapuram on ECR and connect to Elango Nagar on OMR.

2.Maniammai Street – Veeramani Salai: The other one would link Maniammai Street on ECR to Veeramani Salai on OMR. This too will further facilitate easy movement of traffic between the two crucial areas.

3.Arignar Anna Nagar – Pandian Salai The ECR-side Arignar Anna Nagar and OMR-side Pandian Salai will be connected through this bridge, thus reducing travel time for commuters.

These bridges are part of the larger effort that the Bridges Department under the Greater Chennai Corporation has undertaken to enhance the infrastructure as well as disperse traffic. Two other bridges, located on Indira Gandhi 2nd Street and Kannagi Street in Anna Nagar, will also undergo reconstruction. Both projects have been approved, to enhance safety and traffic flow in these busy areas.

These new bridge projects are a step toward making Chennai’s road network more efficient, benefiting thousands of daily commuters.
