The survey for land acquisition for the Coimbatore Metro Rail project will commence shortly, announced Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran after a coordination meeting on Monday. The meeting included officials from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), the National Highways Department, TNEB, the Local Planning Authority, and the Survey Department.

Key discussions revolved around land acquisition, station locations, and route alignment. CMRL plans to establish its project office on the corporation office campus or Dr. Nanjappa Road to streamline operations. To enhance coordination, the corporation has requested that CMRL officials be deputed to Coimbatore for the project.

The Coimbatore Corporation has asked CMRL to fund the land acquisition survey. “CMRL will deposit the required funds, after which the survey will begin. This process involves mapping land, identifying utilities, and planning for utility relocation. Once completed, the exact land requirements for the metro rail project will be determined,” said the commissioner.

As part of the project planning, CMRL officials inspected the Gandhipuram and Ukkadam bus stands on Monday, covering areas along the proposed metro route. The commissioner assured that the metro route would not disrupt operations at the Gandhipuram bus stand. However, adjustments will be made to the proposed new Ukkadam Bus Stand to integrate it with the metro project.

The Coimbatore Metro, expected to significantly enhance urban mobility, will include strategic alignments and utility relocations to minimize disruptions during construction.
