Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has inaugurated a project worth ₹13.38 billion for the 28-kilometer access-controlled highway in Tamil Nadu, aiming to provide better road connectivity and reduce congestion in the area.

The highway will be built with a four-lane main carriageway with paved shoulders, with two-lane service roads on either side. The works are aimed at uncongested smooth travel to local commuters as well as long-distance travelers. The construction of a 10-kilometer bypass around Walajapet and Ranipet will decongest these busy towns and improve the corridor’s operational efficiency.

The project envisages the construction of four other major bridges and two Railway Overbridges to improve safety and efficiency, thereby ensuring a smooth crossing while managing traffic congestion reasonably.

The new infrastructure will be an important aspect in enhancing connectivity between Chennai-Bengaluru-Vellore and other important cities like Tirupati and Vellore, especially Vellore, home to the famous Christian Medical College (CMC). Patients, healthcare staff, and visitors traveling to CMC are all expected to benefit from this.

The highway should give a boost to trade, tourism, and local industries, bringing new life to the entire region. With adequate road development and infrastructure, there will be a huge boost to the economic growth and regional integration of Tamil Nadu.

By resolving the presently existing traffic bottlenecks with faster and safer travel options, the Chennai-Bengaluru-Vellore highway is likely to be the most important infrastructure asset for the state in providing more connectivity and development prospects.

This is because the project reflects the commitment of the government to modernize infrastructure and promote growth via strategic transportation development.
