Waaree Energies has announced a major investment of Rs 8,175 crore to establish what is set to become India’s largest integrated lithium ion battery gigafactory in Andhra Pradesh. The greenfield project will be developed at Rambilli in Anakapalli district and is expected to generate around 3,000 direct jobs, providing a significant boost to local employment and industrial development.

The upcoming facility will have a total capacity of 16 GWh and will cover the entire lithium ion battery value chain under one roof. This includes advanced cell manufacturing, battery pack assembly and large scale Battery Energy Storage Systems production. By integrating end to end manufacturing capabilities, the company aims to reduce dependence on imported technologies while strengthening domestic value addition.

The project has already received in principle approval from the Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board, chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The approval highlights strong policy support from the state government and reinforces Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to emerge as a key hub for clean energy and advanced manufacturing in India.

As India rapidly expands its renewable energy capacity across solar and wind sectors, large scale energy storage has become critical for ensuring grid stability and reliable power supply. The 16 GWh gigafactory is expected to cater to growing demand from renewable projects, electric mobility, industrial users and utility scale storage applications.

By localising lithium ion cell manufacturing, the project aligns with national priorities focused on supply chain resilience, technological self reliance and clean energy transition. The investment positions Waaree Energies at the forefront of India’s evolving battery manufacturing landscape and marks a significant step toward building a robust domestic energy storage ecosystem
