Udhayanidhi Stalin to inaugurate construction workers rest centre and village knowledge centre in Tirupattur

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin is scheduled to inaugurate several public welfare facilities in Tirupattur district, including a dedicated rest centre for construction workers, a village knowledge centre and an integrated seva centre for persons with disabilities.

The construction workers rest centre has been developed to provide a safe and comfortable waiting space for daily wage labourers who gather in the area seeking employment. Officials from the Labour Department said that many workers currently wait under trees or beneath bridges before they are assigned work by trade unions. The newly constructed facility aims to improve safety and working conditions for these workers.

Built at a cost of about ₹34.29 lakh, the prefabricated rest centre has been established at the taluk office campus in Tirupattur, close to Pudupalayam Main Road where construction workers typically assemble for work opportunities. The all weather shelter spreads across around 350 square feet and is designed to accommodate at least 15 people at a time.

The facility is equipped with essential amenities including seating benches, fans, mobile phone charging points and drinking water. Ramps have also been provided to ensure accessibility for persons with disabilities. According to officials, the centre will function every day between 6 am and 10 am except Sundays, providing a secure and organised space for workers before they begin their workday.

The rest centre is also expected to support labour welfare initiatives. Officials noted that it will help streamline the hiring process and enable easier enrolment of workers in welfare schemes offered by the Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board. More than 1.18 lakh construction workers are currently registered with the board across Tirupattur district.

During his visit, Udhayanidhi Stalin will also inaugurate a ₹1.27 crore Village Knowledge Centre at Keel Mittalam village near Tirupattur town. The centre will provide skill training, digital literacy and career guidance programmes for local residents, particularly youth from rural communities.

Authorities have declared parts of Tirupattur district as a no fly zone during the Deputy Chief Minister’s visit as part of security arrangements.
