The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) is set to undertake a major renovation of its hotel property in Tiruchirappalli, marking an important step in strengthening the city’s hospitality infrastructure amid rising tourist inflows. The move follows TTDC’s takeover of the hotel earlier run by the SRM Group, after the expiry of a long-term lease agreement.
Built nearly two decades ago, the hotel has seen limited upgrades since it began operations. With tourism in Tiruchirappalli witnessing steady growth, TTDC has proposed a comprehensive modernisation plan aimed at enhancing both capacity and guest experience. The renovation will be carried out in phases and will include a complete refurbishment of rooms, the restaurant and bar, along with the addition of new rooms and conference halls.
Currently, the hotel has around 110 rooms. Post-renovation, TTDC expects the room inventory to nearly double to about 200, enabling the property to cater to a wider range of travellers. The plan also includes introducing modern amenities and upgraded interiors that align with current hospitality standards, making the hotel more competitive in the regional tourism market.
One of the key advantages of the property is its strategic location near the Tiruchirappalli International Airport, which has made it a preferred choice for airline crews, pilgrims and transit travellers. Tiruchirappalli serves as a major gateway for visitors heading to prominent religious and cultural destinations across central Tamil Nadu, including Srirangam and other heritage centres.
TTDC officials believe that the upgraded hotel will help attract not only domestic tourists but also international visitors, especially as air connectivity to the city continues to improve. The inclusion of new conference and meeting facilities is also expected to support business travel and small-scale events, adding another revenue stream for the property.
The corporation took formal possession of the hotel in October 2025, following the conclusion of the 30-year lease. Since then, internal assessments have highlighted the need for structural upgrades and service enhancements to match evolving traveller expectations.
With tourism emerging as a key economic driver for Tiruchirappalli, the planned renovation reflects TTDC’s broader strategy of modernising state-run hospitality assets. Once completed, the revamped hotel is expected to play a significant role in supporting the city’s growing tourism ecosystem and reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s appeal as a well-rounded travel destination.
