Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced free sand supply for the construction of Indiramma houses as part of a move to reduce financial burdens on beneficiaries. In addition, he asked the mining officials to sell sand at reasonable prices to the common people and take action against the illegal sand mining operators.
During a high-level review meeting on Monday, the chief minister emphasized the need to curb sand smuggling and unauthorized sales. He instructed officials to conduct surprise inspections at sand beaches and clear pending payments to ensure smooth supply. Revanth Reddy warned of stringent measures against the “sand mafia” and assured that steps would be taken to prevent black market sales.
To enhance monitoring, the government will deploy special officers to oversee sand transport and enforce regulations. The district collectors and the SPs would be responsible for implementing these measures. In Hyderabad, the illegal sand transport has been entrusted to the HYDRAA and a separate enforcement team has also been put in place for more comprehensive vigilance.
Further tightening security, the chief minister announced the installation of 360-degree cameras and solar lighting at sand reaches. Entry and exit points will be set up with reinforced fencing at stockyards to prevent unauthorized access.
Addressing concerns about delays in sand availability, Revanth Reddy stressed the importance of an efficient transportation system. He directed officials to empanel registered lorries and ensure that sand reaches consumers within 48 hours of booking. A new system will be introduced to facilitate sand transport from the nearest beach, reducing logistical inefficiencies. Additionally, a special grievance portal will be launched to address consumer complaints.
The government will also implement a tracking system to monitor sand-laden vehicles and restrict sand bookings to office hours to curb manipulation. Officials found colluding with illegal operators will face strict action, the CM warned.
Reaffirming his commitment to transparency, Revanth Reddy stated that responsibilities will be assigned exclusively to permanent employees to prevent irregularities. He also hinted at conducting surprise inspections to ensure compliance.
