Tamil Nadu Budget 2025: 2,000-Acre Global City Planned Near Chennai

Today, Tamil Nadu’s Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu tabled the state’s Budget 2025-26 in the Legislative Assembly. The session that commenced at 9:30 a.m. at the historic Fort St. George complex is a momentous day for the state’s development and economic plans. Tomorrow, we will send to Congress the Agriculture Budget for the coming fiscal year.

The Budget also featured the big announcement of a new city, to be built over 2,000 acres near Chennai. A growth-impacting urban planning effort to enhance infrastructure, economic development policy, and job creation in the area.

This new city will be an urban center with proper planning and have schools, colleges, private enterprises and required infrastructure,” he said. The finance minister said housing facilities along with wide roads, parks, and other leisure spaces will be conducted.”

The government also intends to construct extensive road networks and metro connectivity to ensure seamless transport facilities, along with access to the new city from Chennai. Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) is assigned the project execution.

The declaration coincides with the traditional Tamil Nadu dream of big urban cities triggering land-based investments in education and enterprise centers. When you combine an advanced infrastructure with modern urban planning, the government will be able to create a dynamic space that can serve a residential and commercial purpose.

More information about the project’s funding, timeline, and plan for implementation is expected to be released later this spring. This grand scheme embodies the state’s dedication to sustainable urban development and economic growth.
