The much-awaited T Nagar and R K Nagar flyovers will be thrown open to the public by May after about two years of construction, Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) announced. These projects are intended to relieve traffic congestion in two of the busiest parts of the city.

The T Nagar steel flyover, which will establish a critical link between CIT Nagar and Panagal Park, is nearing completion it will be 1.2 km long. Passage problems along Ranganathan Street, which had caused delays, have now been fixed. The flyover in question will merge with the existing Usman Road flyover and an additional ground-level lane will ensure that vehicles utilise that to merge smoothly to minimise bottlenecks when entering the busy shopping area.

In a similar vein, the R K Nagar flyover is in the last leg of its construction phase and work on the final stretch has begun.

Other Flyover Story Lines

Vyasarpadi Ganeshapuram Flyover: The completion of this project, which was delayed by railway-related issues, is likely to take another three months.

Korukkupet Flyover: Construction was at a standstill on this flyover as railway girders were not placed as scheduled, but work is expected to resume soon. When completed, it will ease congestion on roads to Vyasarpadi and Kodungaiyur.

Nolambur Bridges: Two new bridges spanning the Cooum River at Nolambur are likely to be opened to traffic by July and would enhance connectivity in North Chennai.

These major flyover projects will soon provide great relief to commuters throughout the city, said Minister K N Nehru while replying to a debate in the assembly.
