Somany Ceramics Acquires Durabuild, Enters ₹30,000 Cr Construction Chemicals Market

Somany Ceramics recently made a majority stake acquisition in Delhi-based Durabuild Technologies, thereby marking its entry into the fast-growing Indian construction chemicals sector.

Founded in 1998 by the late Dr. Dhananjoy Ghanti, considered to be India’s first construction chemical chemist, Durabuild has an illustrious name for R&D-oriented innovative work. Currently managed by Rudrabir Ghanti, the company markets over 200 SKUs in waterproofing systems, tile adhesives, admixtures, sealants, grouts, coatings, and repair mortars, serving large institutional clients across North India, besides operating a manufacturing facility in Bahadurgarh.

The acquisition fits in with Somany Ceramics’ long-term vision to become a full-spectrum building solutions brand. Durabuild will now operate under the Somany brand, allowing the latter to offer both aesthetic and performance-based construction products.

The Indian construction chemicals market is rapidly growing, driven by growing demands for infrastructure and quality standards. The waterproofing segment alone is valued at $1.2 billion in 2024, with estimates to reach $2 billion by 2030. Cement admixtures are expected to grow to $1.9 billion by 2033—more than double their current market size.
