Sintex, a leading name in water storage solutions, is now aggressively expanding into pipes, fittings, and electrical products, aiming for a 5% share of India’s ₹1.3 lakh crore pipes market within seven years.
Two years after being acquired by Propel Plastic Products (a Welspun Corp subsidiary) for ₹1,251 crore under a corporate insolvency resolution process, Sintex is undergoing a strategic transformation.
Speaking to ETRealty, Yashovardhan Agarwal, MD of Welspun BAPL and Director of Sintex, shared insights into the company’s post-acquisition journey and future roadmap.
“In the first year, we focused on understanding the 50-year-old brand by engaging with distributors and stakeholders,” said Agarwal. “The second year was about action revamping our apex team, shifting operations to Mumbai, upgrading R&D, integrating tech, and improving supply chain efficiency.”
A key operational shift included addressing high freight costs. “We’re relocating capacities closer to major consumption centers. For instance, our upcoming plant in Sohna will serve NCR and Punjab,” he added.
Sintex has already invested ₹350 crore as part of a broader ₹2,355 crore investment plan. Key projects include:
- A greenfield manufacturing unit in Bhopal (operational by Q1 FY26)
- A new facility under construction in Sonipat
- Ongoing upgrades at the Raipur plant
- Acquisition of Weetek Plastics for ₹85 crore to boost its pipes and fittings vertical
The company currently operates manufacturing plants in Kalol, Uluberia, Namakkal, Nalagarh, Guwahati, Nagpur, and Raipur.
Water storage tanks remain Sintex’s primary revenue stream, contributing 60-65% of total earnings. To boost volume, the brand has introduced budget-friendly tank models while also planning to revive its presence in the industrial tanks category.
Sintex is also expanding into the fast-growing electrical segment, where it is known for its electrical boxes. “This year, we’ll be adding more products to strengthen our offering,” Agarwal said.
