Kolkata-based Shyam Metalics Limited (SML) has announced its entry into the steel roofing segment with the commencement of production from its recently commissioned cold rolling mill in West Bengal. The company said on Friday, March 14 that the $70 million greenfield project will manufacture galvanized iron and pre-painted galvalume coils, which are the basic raw materials for roofing solutions.

The plant will have an initial output of 250,000 metric tons (mt) per year, comprising plans to raise capacity to 400,000 mt in the coming years. SML’s entry in this vertical is addressing industrial, commercial and residential roofing requirements with tough and high-strength solutions.

“With these newly launched products, new corrosion-resistant high tensile strength product ranges shall be offered under four unique brand names SEL TIGER Royale, SEL TIGER ELITE, SEL TIGER AZURE, and SEL TIGER ALFA delivering longevity and reliability to a variety of applications.

This acquisition deepens SML’s presence in the steel industry and bolsters the ability to meet India’s rising demand for premium-quality roofing solutions. The expansion of the company is in line with its broader strategy to deepen product offerings and strengthen its competitive voice in the metal sector.
