Schneider Electric has announced a significant investment of around Rs 718 crore in Tamil Nadu, underscoring its long term commitment to India’s fast growing electrical and energy management manufacturing ecosystem. The global energy management and automation major plans to expand its existing manufacturing facilities in Chennai and Coimbatore, while also setting up a large greenfield plant in Hosur.
The new greenfield facility will come up at Horizon Industrial Park in Hosur and will span approximately 5,00,000 square feet. The plant is expected to play a critical role in enhancing Schneider Electric’s production capacity and supporting its growing domestic and export demand. With this expansion, the company aims to strengthen its manufacturing capabilities across advanced electrical equipment, automation solutions, and energy efficient technologies.
According to the company, the proposed investment will generate around 663 direct jobs, providing a boost to skilled employment in the region. The expansion aligns with Tamil Nadu’s broader industrial growth strategy, which focuses on attracting high value manufacturing investments and creating a robust ecosystem for electronics, electricals, and clean energy solutions.
The investment is being undertaken under a memorandum of understanding signed with the Tamil Nadu government. Officials noted that the project would further enhance the state’s reputation as a preferred destination for global manufacturing companies, particularly in sectors linked to sustainability and energy transition.
Tamil Nadu has emerged as one of Schneider Electric’s key manufacturing bases in India, supported by strong infrastructure, skilled talent availability, and a business friendly policy environment. The expansion in Chennai, Coimbatore, and Hosur is expected to improve operational efficiencies and strengthen supply chain resilience.
Industry observers believe that Schneider Electric’s latest investment will also have a positive ripple effect on ancillary industries, logistics, and industrial real estate in the Hosur and western Tamil Nadu region. As demand for smart energy solutions continues to rise, the project is seen as a strategic step that reinforces Tamil Nadu’s role in India’s evolving manufacturing and clean energy landscape.
