NPG Analysis: A Review of 8 Key Infrastructure Projects Under PM GatiShakti

Framing Eighth Plan, Revised, Eighth Plan, Ninth Plan, Completed and Approved plans increasing by DevelopingPlankMake PlankMakeIn accordance with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, eight important infrastructure projects were presented, on its review meeting in its 89th meet, Meeting over network Planning Group (NPG) to boost connectivity and logistics. The roads, railways and metro network projects are expected to shorten travel time, facilitate trade and enhance multimodal transport efficiency.

Key Road Projects

Four large highway projects were evaluated for regional and cross-border connectivity:

Meghalaya: Darugiri-Dalu Highway (upgradation of 2 lanes 136.11 km replacing the existing 2 lanes) – improves trade route, connectivity and access to the region.

Brahmaputra Underwater Tunnel: It is the first four-lane undersea tunnel in India and has reduced travel time from 6.5 hours to only half an hour, enhancing access to Arunachal Pradesh from Assam.

Kaliabor-Numaligarh Highway Widening: 85.67 km expansion with appropriate wildlife design provisions to allow safe passage of wildlife near Kaziranga NP.

A two-lane 138.17 km long road will provide a strong advancement to the tourism sector and defense movement along the border areas in the region.

InfrastructureWorks: Railway Projects Development For Quick Freight And Passenger Transport

Three critical railway expansion projects were put forth by the Department of Railways.

Maharashtra: Badlapur-Karjat Rail Line Third and Fourth Line Project for 32.46 km.

Nergundi-Cuttack Fourth Rail Line (Odisha): 15.99 km extension with a flyover to boost freight operations

Haridaspur-Paradip Railway Doubling (74.09 km): to facilitate expedited coal transport and develop new industries of Odisha.

Urban Mobility — Metro Expansion

The review also included the 41.11 km Rajkot Metro Rail Project. Providing sustainable urban transport and curbing traffic congestion in Gujarat’s industrial hub is the metro’s aim.

These projects complement India’s long-term infrastructure goals by establishing efficient transport networks that would accelerate India’s economic growth.
