On July 24, 2025, the Telangana government sanctioned the construction of a ₹430 crore bridge over the Mir Alam Tank to help alleviate city congestion and provide road connectivity to Hyderabad. The new bridge will connect the Bengaluru National Highway with Chintalmet Road, providing a vital transit solution in the city’s southern corridor.
The project is assigned to Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd (MRDCL) under the supervision of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department. The bridge will preferably be constructed through the EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) mode.
To expedite the process, the MRDCL will call for tenders for EPC contractors while also acquiring land. Some parcels are yet to be acquired, but the government plans to carry on with the construction by advancing parallel preparatory work without delay.
To ensure that the quality and timelines of the project are adhered to, a project management consultancy (PMC) will be appointed through a competitive bidding process, which will undertake overall supervision, quality audits, and project monitoring. All technical drawings and engineering designs from the EPC contractor will have to be approved by an alternate and well-reputed technical institution like Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTU-H), before being verified by the appointed PMC.
The bridge is expected to relieve traffic considerably in the western and southern areas of the city, ensuring better travel times for daily commuters. This also fits well within the overall urban mobility strategy of Hyderabad and the Musi Riverfront rejuvenation plans.
The project is yet another major push for infrastructure by the state government to enhance urban connectivity, while focusing on technical transparency and quality assurance for public works.
