An allotment of land has been made by the Andhra Pradesh government to Dubai’s Lulu Group for the establishment of mega shopping malls in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada for commercial development.

According to the Government Order Ms No. 137 issued by the Industries and Commerce Department, the Lulu Group has been given a 99-year lease of 13.74 acres of land at Harbour Park along Beach Road in Visakhapatnam. The Lulu group will develop a mega shopping mall in the area of 13.5 lakh sq. ft., which enhances the retail and tourism potential for the city.

In Vijayawada, the government has granted in-principle clearance for the handing over of land on the same lines for 4.15 acres for a 65-year lease, extendable for another 33 years. The company plans to build a shopping mall in the city of 2.32 lakh sq. ft in area.

Both projects will have a moratorium period of three years or until the malls are operational, whichever is earlier.
The authority has directed the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) to return possession of the site to Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), which will take care of the legal clearance and get back with the final proposal. The pricing and implementation will follow the AP Tourism Land Allotment Policy for 2024–2029.

The revenue and transport departments have been instructed to clear out any existing structures and swiftly transfer the land for the timely execution of the project.

This is an act in the wider context of a strategy of the state to bring global investors and enhance tourism-related infrastructure. The entrance of LuLu Group into the top cities of Andhra is a most pronounced sign of confidence in this region’s economic potential and consumer market.

Construction is expected to start soon, and find themselves two mall icons as retail destinations in the state.
