Karnataka’s New IT City in Bidadi Set to Drive the Next Phase of Tech Expansion

The Karnataka government has announced an ambitious new technology development initiative with its plan to build a full-scale IT City in Bidadi, located in the Ramanagara district, recently renamed Bengaluru South. The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar during the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025, reinforcing Karnataka’s long-standing commitment to strengthening its leadership in India’s digital economy.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the project has already garnered remarkable interest from global investors. Representatives from nearly 60 countries engaged with the state during the summit, indicating the high degree of confidence the international community places in Karnataka’s thriving tech environment. Shivakumar highlighted that international companies see enormous potential in Bengaluru’s innovation culture, and the government is committed to supporting new investments with streamlined approvals and modern infrastructure.

The proposed IT City will be led by IT Minister Priyank Kharge and KEONICS Chairman Sharath Bache Gowda. With Bengaluru hosting nearly 2.5 million technology professionals, the government intends to harness this massive talent base by creating a new, integrated tech cluster in Bidadi. The upcoming development is designed to ease the infrastructural load on central Bengaluru while promoting balanced regional growth across Bengaluru South.

Officials believe that the new IT City will support advanced research, digital services, tech manufacturing and enterprise growth, all within a master-planned environment. The project is expected to include high-end workspaces, incubation centres, data infrastructure and improved mobility access for professionals.

In addition to the IT City plan, the state government is exploring improved mobility routes to support future growth corridors. Shivakumar confirmed that Karnataka is evaluating the extension of Namma Metro services to Tumakuru through a public-private partnership model. This extended connectivity is expected to strengthen industrial and technology linkages between Bengaluru and Tumakuru, creating new opportunities for investment and employment.

With strong investor interest, a vast pool of skilled professionals and a future-focused government vision, the Bidadi IT City is positioned to become one of Karnataka’s most important technology infrastructure projects in the coming decade.
