B.C. Jindal Group’s downstream steel products major Jindal (India) Ltd has entered the renewable energy market with the launch of its aluminium-zinc (Al-Zn) coated steel coils under the brand name of Jindalume. The company has developed the product for application in solar module mounting structures.
Al-Zn coating is highly corrosion-resistant, structurally stable, and hard and thus especially well-suited to be utilized in outdoor conditions like solar facilities. The organization has already started providing coils of Jindalume to the solar industry.
“Jindalume is structured to provide long-term backing for solar schemes. We think there’s tremendous room to grow in the solar segment and want to make a contribution towards it with high, reliable products,” according to a company official.
Jindal (India) has two plants in Kolkata, serving markets throughout India. To meet growing demand and enable product diversity, the company has added an addition of 0.6 million metric tonne capacity, a 60% addition to the current 1 million metric tonne per annum capacity. The expansion will be supported by an ₹1,500 crore investment and increasing R&D capacity and scope of the company’s renewable energy products.
The expansion is in line with B.C. Jindal Group’s overall strategy created a new company Jindal India Renewable Energy a year ago to lead its drive for clean energy. The Group has pledged to invest $2.5 billion in five years in renewable power and solar manufacturing.
Jindal India Renewable Energy is targeting to create 5 GW of solar, wind, hybrid, and flexible-dispatch renewable energy (FDRE) capacity. The Group will also produce photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules, thereby becoming a leading driver in India’s clean energy revolution.
With its foray into new products and strategic investment, Jindal (India) Ltd is stepping into the new solar sector as a serious contender.
