Indian Hotels Company, part of the Tata Group and best known for its Taj brand, has announced the signing of a Vivanta hotel in Vellore, marking its first entry into the city. The development underlines IHCL’s strategy of strengthening its footprint in high potential secondary cities across Tamil Nadu, driven by growing demand from education, healthcare and industrial activity.
The upcoming Vivanta Vellore will be a 100 key property developed in partnership with the BBK Group. Designed to cater to both business and leisure travellers, the hotel will feature an all day dining restaurant, a lounge bar and a banquet hall spanning about 2,500 sq ft. These facilities are expected to address the city’s increasing requirement for quality accommodation, meetings and social events.
Vellore has steadily emerged as an important urban centre in Tamil Nadu, anchored by its reputation as a leading education and healthcare hub. The presence of renowned institutions, a growing industrial base and improved road connectivity to Chennai and Bengaluru have contributed to rising visitor inflows. Hospitality demand in the city has also been supported by corporate travel, academic conferences and medical tourism, creating a strong case for branded hotel development.
Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President Real Estate and Development at Indian Hotels Company, said the company sees significant long term potential in Vellore. She noted that the city’s improving infrastructure and expanding economic profile position it well as a sustainable hospitality market. The signing of Vivanta Vellore aligns with IHCL’s focus on expanding its upscale and premium portfolio in emerging destinations.
For BBK Group, the partnership brings a globally recognised hospitality brand to Vellore, enhancing the city’s hotel landscape. The project is expected to contribute to local employment and support the broader services ecosystem once operational.
Indian Hotels Company continues to expand aggressively across Tamil Nadu, with a presence in key cities and resort destinations. The addition of Vivanta Vellore reinforces the company’s commitment to tapping new growth corridors while delivering consistent brand experiences. As Vellore continues to attract business, academic and healthcare related travel, the new hotel is poised to play a key role in meeting the city’s evolving accommodation needs.
