The long-awaited eight-lane expansion of the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway 65 (NH-65) has finally moved a step closer to reality. The tendering process has been completed, and construction is scheduled to begin in February 2026, marking a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure development.
Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced that NH-65 is one of the busiest highways in the region, handling massive daily traffic between Hyderabad and Vijayawada. However, the corridor has also been identified as one of the most accident-prone routes, with 17 critical black spots where frequent road mishaps occur. To address this, the government plans to build 17 flyovers at these locations, ensuring smoother traffic movement and enhanced road safety.
Once the project is completed, travel time between Hyderabad and Vijayawada is expected to reduce dramatically to just two hours, compared to the longer and often unpredictable journey currently faced by commuters. The upgraded corridor will adopt modern engineering standards, integrating cutting-edge technology to create a high-speed, accident-free expressway.
Minister Reddy also highlighted the strong support extended by the Union government. Following his recent meeting with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, the project has gained renewed momentum, underlining the collaborative effort between the state and central governments to deliver world-class road infrastructure.
In addition to NH-65, the state is witnessing rapid progress on another key project — the Bharat Future City–Amaravati greenfield highway, which stretches nearly 230 kilometers. This corridor is expected to play a transformative role in boosting connectivity, regional trade, and economic development.
The expansion of NH-65 and the parallel progress of greenfield highways form part of a larger strategy to strengthen road infrastructure, reduce congestion, and enhance safety across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. For commuters, businesses, and logistics players, these projects promise faster travel, lower transport costs, and greater efficiency.
With work scheduled to begin in early 2026, the Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway expansion is poised to reshape connectivity in the region, offering a faster, safer, and more reliable travel experience for millions of people.
