Dalmia Cement is taking another step toward strengthening its renewable energy portfolio with a planned investment in wind power in Tamil Nadu. The company has announced that it will acquire a 26 per cent stake in Ventora Energy, enabling it to source 8.1 MW of wind power for its own consumption.

This move reflects Dalmia Cement’s continued focus on reducing its carbon footprint while improving energy efficiency across its operations. The investment is aligned with the company’s broader sustainability roadmap, which prioritises increased use of clean and renewable energy sources in cement manufacturing.

Tamil Nadu has long been one of India’s leading states for wind energy generation, offering favourable wind conditions, established infrastructure and a strong policy framework that supports renewable energy projects. By investing in a captive wind power arrangement, Dalmia Cement aims to secure a stable and cost-effective energy supply while reducing dependence on conventional power sources.

The cement industry is among the most energy-intensive sectors, and energy costs form a significant part of production expenses. Companies are increasingly turning to renewable energy to not only manage costs but also meet environmental, social and governance commitments. Investments like this are becoming a key strategy for long-term operational sustainability.

Dalmia Cement has been actively expanding its green energy footprint in recent years. The company has already implemented various initiatives across solar and wind energy projects to improve its overall energy mix. This latest investment further strengthens its position as one of the leading cement players focusing on sustainability and innovation.

Industry experts believe that such initiatives will play a crucial role in helping India achieve its climate targets while ensuring that core industries like cement remain competitive and resilient. With rising emphasis on decarbonisation, the shift towards renewable energy is expected to accelerate across sectors.

As infrastructure growth and construction demand continue to rise in India, the importance of sustainable manufacturing practices becomes even more critical. Dalmia Cement’s investment in wind power highlights the growing integration of clean energy solutions into core industrial operations, setting a strong example for the sector.
